The Pull of the Magnet
August 9, 2010
A lot has changed since January. For one thing, I have "graduated" from my previous grade level and have been "promoted" to "Fresh-meat." I view it as demotion since I will be on the bottom of the dog pile instead of at the top like last year. But that's the circle of life, isn't it?
For another thing, I am no longer living at 14A Zum Shachen. I will truly miss that place. I have a lot of fond memories of living there. America is just too different. It's the sales tax. They don't have that in Germany. What you see is what you have to pay. The Autobahn is by far superior to highways, and the atmosphere is just cleaner in a way. But it's the same sky, right?
For now, I am stuck sleeping on an air mattress with no lights, furniture, or familiar faces. The lights and furniture might be remedied quickly, but familiar faces will be a bit harder to find.
Here's to the uncertainty of Military Life and to the pull of a place most Americans call home.
